Peter Whiteman is an internationally acclaimed artist and has worked throughout his life within the Film, Theatre and Television industries. Much of his work is focused where his passion lies, in Fine Art, as a painter and muralist.
He has a First Class Honours Degree from the Central School Of Art and Design in London, and was awarded two Arts Council Bursary Awards. He assisted the designers Leslie Hurry, Alix Stone, Ralph Koltai, Yolande Sonnabend, Sophie and Margaret Harris( the Mötley Sisters).

Subsequently he went on to design seventy-five productions of Opera, Drama, Ballet, Dance and Musicals.

  • The Italian Girl in Algiers’ and ‘The Coronation of Poppea’ both Opera’s staged at the London Collesium.
  • Harry Nilsson’s ‘The Point’ at the Mermaid Theatre in London, which was awarded the ABTT (Association of British Theatre Technicians) Design Award.
  • Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Snow Maiden’ a Ballet for Santiago, Chile. (Commissioned by Houston, Texas Ballet Company).

Peter Whiteman has exhibited his personal work and paintings over the years throughout the U K and Europe. His successful exhibition ‘Passing Through’ at the North Light Gallery,Brooke’s Mill in 2011 in Yorkshire was followed by a collaborative exhibition “Kindred Spirits“ with Natalia Dolgova a Russian/Siberian painter at the same Gallery in 2012-now extended until March, 2013.

Peter, a former partner, still works extensively with long term colleagues, Jane and Jerry Headford of Dartura Art & Design, a company based in West Yorkshire. They complete various installations for exhibitions, museums, film and theatre. You can see some of his and their work on the website

He is now spending more of his time in the South of France where he lives, returning to his painting work as a Fine Artist and enjoying the finer things in life.
